We had such a wonderful time in Costa Rica staying at Casa Nube! We drove about two hours from Liberia to the house, and the drive through the beautiful countryside and jungle was part of the adventure.
When we arrived, a basket of fresh fruit was waiting for us, which was such a thoughtful touch. The hosts also let us pre-order groceries so we had a few essentials waiting at the house when we arrived, which made settling in so much easier.
During our stay, we discovered so many wonderful places around Sámara. We loved La Boca, a beautiful restaurant overlooking the jungle. Our sunset catamaran cruise was everyone’s favorite adventure—our group of 9 adults and 4 kids had an amazing time, and the children especially loved the slide on the boat!
For my birthday, we hired a private chef to prepare a traditional Costa Rican dinner at the house. Everything was delicious, especially the patacones. We also visited the Sámara Market, where we enjoyed fresh juices, empanadas, and live music.
Chaki Café quickly became one of our favorite breakfast spots. They served hot tea, gluten-free muffins, delicious breakfast sandwiches, and were conveniently located next to Super New China Sámara, one of the best grocery stores in town.
Sámara Brewing Company was another favorite, with great margaritas, hamburgers, ceviche, and some of the best salsa we had during our trip. We watched a fútbol match on the big screens at Las Olas while enjoying an incredible fresh tuna salad, and we heard they also have karaoke nights.
Carrillo Beach was perfect for a peaceful walk. We found sand dollars along the shore, and there were food vendors nearby as well. We also explored several walking trails around the house and were lucky enough to spot howler monkeys. Watching them and taking photos and videos was one of the highlights of our trip.
On our final evening, we celebrated at Restaurant Bahía. I made reservations in advance, and they had a large table ready for our whole group. The food, drinks, and atmosphere were fantastic, and I highly recommend the passion fruit margarita!
The hosts took excellent care of us from beginning to end and were always available whenever we had questions or needed assistance. The house was comfortable, well-equipped, and had everything we needed for our stay. We especially loved relaxing on the outdoor patios in the mornings while listening to all the birds, monkeys, and other wildlife. Swimming in the pool every day was also a highlight for the kids.
Casa Nube was the perfect home base for our family vacation, and our time in Sámara created memories we’ll cherish for years to come. We’d absolutely love to go back!

Where to next? Maybe Peru or Montana!
